Personal Statement:
Hello fellow Slug staff,
It is an honor and with great pleasure that I join the Staff Advisory Board. I
look forward to engaging with staff from all over campus during the course of
the academic year and bringing staff issues to the front of the eyes and ears of
the administration at UCSC. I grew up the second oldest of eight children in the
Los Angeles area and received my BA in History from UCLA in 1997. Fortunately, I
arrived at lovely Santa Cruz in the Fall of 2003. I have worked at UCLA, UC
Davis, and now at UCSC, in the Financial Aid department and currently as an
Academic Counselor at EOP (Educational Opportunities Program). EOP represents
the UC's effort to identify, retain, and graduate a diverse student body and
with that mission in mind, we strive to promote the retention, academic success,
and graduation rates of first generation college, low-income, and educationally
disadvantaged student populations, and to assist these students with preparation
for admission to graduate and professional schools.
On a personal note, I am currently studying at night for a Master's degree in Public Policy (focusing on areas of Social/Health and Education policy). In my spare time, I love to go camping, backpacking, play guitar, enjoy live music performance, and spending time with my wife, 16 month old daughter, family and friends. Thank you for your vote of confidence in allowing me to represent you at UCSC. Please don't hesitate to contact me concerning staff issues on campus.
Sincerely,
Eric
